Footprint, the Gilbert-based material sciences company that makes plant based alternatives to plastic, announced on Friday that it plans to establish a new R&D center in the Netherlands to serve as the primary innovation hub for its European customers.
Footprint makes recyclable, food-carrying products like trays, cups, coolers and more with a goal of helping to eliminate single-use plastics. The company employs more than 1,500 people in the U.S., Mexico, Asia and Europe and as part of the new R&D center opening, Footprint said it plans to boost hiring in Europe.
The new research facility, which includes a prototype and test lab, will be located in Eindhoven at the Brainport Industries Campus. This site will also serve as the company’s European headquarters.
